Poupatempo Digital: Revolutionizing Vehicle Ownership and Transfer in São Paulo

In the digital era, the São Paulo state government has taken a significant step forward in enhancing the efficiency and convenience of vehicle ownership and transfer with the introduction of the Poupatempo Digital app. This innovative solution is designed to streamline the vehicle transfer process, making it more accessible and efficient for both car owners and buyers.

The Poupatempo Digital app primarily caters to individual car owners who already possess a digital version of the CRV-e (Vehicle Registration Certificate). Initially, the service is available for vehicles manufactured after January 2021, adopting the Mercosul standard license plates, and having digital documents in São Paulo state. However, even for cars manufactured before January 2021, owners can still avail of this service if they maintain the same registration municipality as the original owner and have converted their paper CRVe to a digital format. Notably, in such cases, there is no need to replace the existing gray license plates with Mercosul plates.

The introduction of this service is expected to significantly increase the monthly vehicle transfer volume in São Paulo, potentially reaching 70,000 vehicles. With the full digitization of the process, the monthly transfer volume is anticipated to soar to an impressive 500,000 vehicles. In contrast to the traditional process, which often involved a waiting period of 3 to 10 working days for document verification through the São Paulo state transport department's website, the new format promises a hassle-free experience.

Eliminating the need to visit a notary public, the Poupatempo Digital app supports digital identity verification, saving owners from the cumbersome process of signature authentication. To utilize this service, both sellers and buyers are required to have silver or gold-level accounts on the Gov.Br system and install the Poupatempo app on their smartphones. Additionally, the vehicle must undergo a vehicle identification inspection conducted by a company recognized by the Department of Transport, ensuring the accuracy of the information.

Within the app, sellers and buyers can opt to use Pix for paying the transfer fee (if applicable, the fee is set at 272.27 reais). Furthermore, the system handles any outstanding payments related to the vehicle through the intermediary of the Department of Finance and Planning, ensuring transparency and fairness in the transaction. Once the process is complete, both the seller and buyer receive a confirmation message, facilitating the prompt retrieval of new vehicle documents.
